The organisation of the Choralies is based to a large degree on volunteering

In 2007, 430 volunteers worked in 270 different positions.
The musical and human involvement, which every participant in the Choralies is looking for, is only possible by sharing tasks between the 20 services, each of which is placed under the responsibility of a section head.
All volunteers take part in preparing and carrying out this big festive music event. To be part of Choralies and serve is to live one’s passion for choral singing while helping with organisation and backstage at the festival.
It is also a way of participating at lesser cost.

Remarks: Not all positions allow a participation in a music workshop.
You must be at least 18 years old in order to be a volunteer with Choralies.

  Reception – Information Service

You will welcome the “choralists” on 2 August, and, during the following days, you will answer their numerous questions (at three different sites).
You will work together with the local population of Vaison, which will be involved in the festival in this way. Multilingual capacities are useful; smiles and politeness are a must. Workshop possible for some volunteers in this service.
Number of persons required: about 12.

  Ticket Office

You will sell and exchange concert tickets at the Ferme des Arts next to the Roman Theatre. You need to be cheerful, resistant, patient and courteous.
Number of persons required: about 10, of whom 6 will not be able to participate in a workshop and 4 who may take part in a “discovery workshop” during the last 3 days.

  Camping Sites

The camping sites will have to be ready one day prior to the beginning of the Choralies. A special team will have started to set up the sites one week earlier.
You will welcome the campers and caravaners at the different sites; you will be very attentive to their needs and requests. After work, you may either stay with the camping team or join a workshop.
The service ends on 12 August, after taking down and storing everything. You will live outdoors under the sun of Vaison… bring some sunscreen!
Workshop possible for some of the volunteers.
Number of persons required: about 12.

Communication                                                                                                                <top

Communication is a vast enterprise that starts at a very early stage of preparation of Choralies.
The positions involve contact with the media and within the town of Vaison.
During Choralies, we need graphic designers, photographers, writers, and distributors of the Journal des Choralies. No workshop participation.
Number of persons required: about 12

Youth Corner: “Carré Jeunes”
You will welcome the young festival participants (< 26) and organise events for them and with them in a special tent: discussions, prepared or improvised rehearsals, activities in town, etc. You will meet choir conductors, dream up crazy projects and make many contacts which will be useful once you return home and peruse all your souvenirs. Possibility of a workshop (to be discussed).
Number of persons required: 4

Editions A CŒUR JOIE – The Choralies Shop

You will welcome clients who wish to discover A Cœur Joie products and also hundreds of items from all over the world: scores, song collections, CDs, books, gadgets and various accessories.
A great availability is required during the entire festival (working hours depend on the various activities and concerts).
Workshop possible for some.
Number of persons required: 11 music lovers with a commercial vein.

Management of Venues                                                                  <top
School buildings will be used to host workshops and accommodate musicians.
Your task is to ensure that these activities take place under the best conditions possible. Participation in a workshop is difficult, with the exception of “One Day/One Conductor”. Number of persons required: 14.

  IT

Tasks include installation and maintenance of the computer material necessary for registration and services at the different sites.
Important work prior (29 July – 1 August) to the festival opening and the first few days of the festival, as well as at the end (11 August, for putting away the material).
Possibility of participation in a “discovery workshop” during the last three days, before joining the team again for tidying up.
Number of persons required: 2

  Party Day on 5 August

Preparing the day and the parade, together with Vaison’s shopkeepers.
Workshop participation possible (except for one person).
Number of persons required: about 15 to manage and run the parade.

  Security

The task is to ensure sites remain guarded and are under surveillance from time to time, or to regulate the traffic of cars and buses when they leave their parking areas.
Possibility to take part in another service or workshop.
Number of persons required: 5 – 10, varying from one day to the next.

  Stage Productions                                                                         <top

You will be the essential, discreet and efficient actors of the “show machine”, at the service of the artists. You will be in charge of setting up and taking down the stage.
You will welcome and guide the participants backstage and ensure that everything goes smoothly during the concerts.
You will meet the artists and the sound and light engineers.
You will be the first to arrive and the last to leave the concert venues.
Good physical condition is required; team spirit and good humour will be your main assets. You will not be able to participate in a workshop but you will live an unforgettable experience… right in the heart of the show.
Your presence will be required from the morning of 30 July to the morning of 11 August after everything has been taken down.
No workshop participation.
Number of persons required: about 30.

  Management of the Audience

You will be in charge of welcoming the audience at the Roman Theatre and all other concert venues.
You will be responsible for the security and the maintenance of these venues.
Your daily work will be manifold; however, you will be able to attend the concerts.
You can take part in a workshop: if you do, you will have to work every evening and during some afternoons.
You must be cheerful but firm, and in good physical and psychological condition. A strong team spirit is also necessary. Lots of social interaction!
Workshop participation possible (to be discussed).
Number of persons required: between 50 and 70

  Restaurant Service

You will welcome the “choralists” at the central, open-air restaurant. You will be in charge of maintaining the food chains and preparing and cleaning the tables.
You may participate in a workshop while serving two or three meals per day, but this depends on the number of volunteers in the service and its organisation.
Good physical condition and a strong team spirit are required. There will be lots of laughter and conviviality.
Workshop possible for some volunteers.
Number of persons required: between 60 and 80.

  SERMAT (equipment service)                                                           <top

You will transport and install all kinds of equipment at different sites of the festival.
Good physical condition and team spirit are required in order to appreciate the very special atmosphere of this service.
No workshop possibility.
Number of persons required: about 20 from 25 July to 13 August (possibility of volunteering only part of the time, with a minimum of days of presence). Driver’s licence desirable. Specific skills sought after: 1 or 2 forklift truck operators, 1 or 2 persons with a valid truck driver’s licence with recent experience in truck driving.

  Signposts and Panels

You would like to participate in an international event in a magical part of Provence, and desire that many people come to share this pleasure.
The signpost and markings service will enable you to work in this sense.
As part of a team, you will produce all road signs and panels, which will be put up according to the needs of a particular activity at a particular site.
At the end, everything will be stored for use in the next Choralies.
If you have clever ideas and like DIY jobs, this service is for you.
Workshop possible.
Number of persons required: 2 - 10 daily.

  Communications

You like “connecting people”: you may want to join us in order to install the telephone cables and sound system for Choralies to function smoothly.
This service also includes the maintenance of the main Choralies switchboard.
Precision, dependability and reactive thinking are useful qualities in order to connect all sites and deal with unexpected situations.
Possibility of workshop participation to be discussed.
Number of persons required: about 15.

  Extra Helpers                                                                            <top

If you do not wish to register for a service but would like to give one hour or two of your time to help in an emergency, you may do so, e.g. distributing flyers or posters, preparing the distribution of the daily Choralies journal, playing host when people arrive on 2 August, helping to control the parade on Party Day…
Each day the requirements will be published in the Choralies journal and publicly posted. Number of persons required: as many as possible!
